(会意。从羔,从美。古人的主要肉食是羊肉,所以用“羔”“美”会意,表示肉的味道鲜美。用肉或菜调和五味做成的带汁的食物。《说文》:“五味和羹。”按:上古的“羹”,一般是指带汁的肉,而不是汤。“羹”表示汤的意思,是中古以后的事情)
